Philosophy

YouTube Poster

We have combined the philosophies of Classical education and the Sudbury model in a way that allows for each philosophy to thrive individually. Monday through Wednesday, half of the day is classical learning, covering classes such as English/language arts, Latin, logic, math, Bible, Socratic seminar, etc. The second half of the day the students have total freedom to pursue their interests and passions. Thursdays are electives, where students can take STEM, dance, music, theatre, art, martial arts, cooking and other classes that connect to their personal interests. Fridays the students have total freedom to pursue their interests and passions for the full day and most of the time is spent outside, in free nature exploration. Below is a breakdown of the most essential components of our school program:

In order to help people grasp the framework of our school’s philosophy, we created an acronym that expresses all of the components of the school:

F-Follow a child’s interests, passions, learning style, and learning pace

L-Liberal Arts Education (Classical Education) allows children to learn freely through exploration, dialogue of their thoughts and opinions, and by interaction with Living Books/Classic literature, the school community and the world

O-Open to exploring and respecting others’ perspectives, backgrounds and worldviews for understanding  and without fear of compromising their own beliefs

W-Worldview based on Biblical teachings

I-Independence and Self Motivation develop in our students as they grow in the school

N-Nature School is an integral part of our school program, therefore students spend a great deal of time freely exploring the outside world in nature. We are inspired by the work of Erin Kenny and the Cedarsong Way school philosophy.

G-Government is based on student lead democracy

The above components reveal the most important aspects of the school and express what each student will experience in a school day with us. The acronym spells out the word FLOWING, because this is what we want our students to do each day, to enjoy flowing through the day, experience all that God would have them to and pursuing every passion that God has placed in their hearts. We are here to guide them to the tools necessary to become lifelong learners and to reach their goals and dreams.
